<p>The wing was created as the 37th Fighter-Bomber Wing in April 1953 at Clovis AFB, NM although it was not operational and was inactivated two months later. The unit was reactivated as a Tactical Fighter Wing at Phu Cat AB, South Vietnam in March 1967 with the F-100 and later the F-4. They conducted forward air control operations with the F-100F between 1967 and 1969, and were inactivated in March 1970. The unit reactivated at Tonopah Test Range with the F-117A in October 1989. Two squadrons deployed to Khamis Mushait, Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm with 37th TFW (Provisional). The unit became a Fighter Wing in October 1991, with the wing losing the F-117s in July 1992 when the aircraft were transferred to the 49th FW at Holloman AFB. The unit reformed as the 37th Training Wing at Lackland AFB as the primary facility to conduct basic military training, replacing the 3250th Technical Training Wing. Although no flying duties are performed, the unit has a large number of airframes displayed at various locations within the Lackland complex, some of which are used for training purposes.
